Parkhouse Coulinstrasse 2011

Invited Competition in the city of Wiesbaden

The continuous parking ramp winds around a generous void providing views to the commercial area at the bottom. Generous and direct outer staircases connect the upper with the lower city. Platforms offer not only an opportunity to linger, but also direct access to the multi-storey car park on three levels. The specially coated, unobtrusive stainless steel / glass façade serves as a load-bearing construction and a protection for parking garage traffic and for solar energy generation. It changes its colour slightly during the day due to warming and reflection.
This project offers the opportunity to deal with one of the most important challenges of today's city. Can a car park meet the needs of the city and its inhabitants (urban integration, pedestrian accessibility and porosity, social services) and at the same time the needs of the car and its operator (economy, energy efficiency, car-friendly accessibility)?
